4K Projectors and Laser TVs

The challenge

4K is now the universal standard across TVs, streaming platforms, and gaming consoles. Consumers expect sharp, detailed images every day. Projection is the most effective way to achieve large screens—but only if it can meet modern resolution expectations. Native 4K projectors use imaging devices with over eight million physical pixels. These chips are large, expensive, and require extremely precise optics and alignment, which drives up system cost, size, and power consumption.

Our solution

Optotune’s Extended Pixel Resolution (XPR) technology meets this challenge with a cost-effective and elegant engineering approach. By accurately and rapidly tilting a glass window, light passing through it is shifted laterally along two axes to reach four distinct positions. As a result, each pixel is projected in four locations, effectively quadrupling the resolution and converting a 1080p image into a 4K projection on the screen. Optotune XPR products are used in 4K smart projectors, laser TVs, home cinema systems, and professional cinema projectors.

Why Optotune for projectors

Compact and lightweight
Fast and accurate pixel shifting
Low acoustic noise
Fully pre-calibrated up to 75°C

Working principle: The pixel shifting principle is that of tilting a glass window.

The XPR tilts a glass window in one/two axes to reach multiple distinct positions. As a result, each pixel is projected to two/four locations.
