Ophthalmology

The challenge

Ophthalmology relies on a wide range of instruments for refractive assessment and disease diagnostics, many of which require precise control of focus and direction during intraocular imaging. Conventional systems often depend on exchanging multiple optical components, resulting in bulky setups and longer examination times.

Our solution

The Optotune tunable lens acts as a projection lens in visual field analyzers, replacing bulky, noisy optomechanical stages. It enables silent, millisecond focusing across large distances, projecting sharp central and peripheral stimuli onto the dome. The Optotune EL‑3‑10 tunable lens, with its wide ±13 D range, integrates into biometers to provide silent, millisecond focusing across the full cornea-to-retina axial range. By replacing bulky mechanical stages with a compact 10×4 mm opto-electronic component, it reduces instrument size, part count, and alignment complexity while accelerating measurement acquisition.

Why Optotune for visual field analyzers

A slim 12 mm aperture instead of bulky mechanical stages
Millisecond focusing with high optical throughput
Temperature-compensated tuning
Smaller, faster projection engines
Streamlined workflow with long lifetime

Why Optotune for biometers

Fast, silent millisecond focusing in the cornea-to-retina region
Wide tuning range
Small, simple opto-mechanics, easy to retrofit
Robust, OEM-ready component
Platform for new features (topographers, keratometers...)
